“Go where rainbows reign, linings come in silver and platforms can’t get high enough! We’re in electric ladyland with colors that blaze beyond the spectrum and patterns that are poppin’ off.”
Nasty Gal has just released their January 2013 Lookbook, entitled Pop Rocks. From bright hues and monochrome pieces, to holograms and metallics, it is the epitome of modern pop streetwear. The colorful pictorial, modeled entirely by Britt Maren, could not be described as anything less than fabulous. The collection is an ode to bold and beautiful street fashion − a true wardrobe muse. Not only are Nasty Gal pieces in this collection, but brands like Motel, Jeffrey Campbell, and Shakuhachi are included. Surely, there’s no doubt that Pop Rocks will win the hearts of fashion enthusiast, prompting many filled “carts”− over course, myself included.
While there isn’t a sole theme throughout the eclectic collection, there is an apparent color trend among many pieces.

Nearly half the collection is comprised of monochrome garments – classic black and white clothing with a bold twist. Stripes, polka dots, grids, fur, ombre, and even hypnotizing patterns – you name it, they’ve got it.
The rest of the collection is the complete contrary – in color that is, not sartorial brilliance. Brilliantly bright hues, bold color blocking, and irresistible patterns. These colorful garments tended to be those which got me drooling the most.
The Psychedelic Crochet Dress by Shakuhachi is simply brilliant. A rainbow hued weaved dress with a fringe hem. This groovy dress, with that certain hippy vibe is perfect for those cherished summer festival days. Until those hotter days roll around, it can be paired with a leather jacket, nude panty hose, and combat boots.
Another fav of mine is the vintage Bob Mackie Harlequin Print Silk Blouse. Created in the 80s, this oversized blouse is true to its time with its bold hued diamond pattern. Genius little details, like the contrast collar and cuffs add to the overall precision of the garment.

Adding to the two previous pieces and making it onto my wishlist are the Flower Power Platform Sandals.
Also by Shakuhachi, these heels are the perfect balance between, edgy and feminine. A bold style with chunky heels and thick straps gives them their edginess, while the delicate pastel daisies add that feminine and girly feel.
