Even though our Fashion Week experience is sadly coming to an end, we still got to catch designer Samuel Dong’s show last night. Since I wasn’t really familiar with this designer’s work I did a little homework before the show, only to realise that this guy has been around for more than 20 years and has his own official boutique at Rockland Center in Montreal and creations sold all over the world. I was excited to see what he had to offer us for Fall/Winter 2012-13.

The show started off with a short behind the scenes video showing some of the models getting fitted with pieces from the collection. Then we were treated to Etta James’ famous song At Last as the models came out looking smoking hot decked out in 50’s make-up and hair. The whole atmosphere was upbeat with jazzy tunes and bright lighting which perfectly complemented the hurricane of colours, patterns and textures going on on the runway.

While some pieces we’re a little costumy for our taste, many others were a perfect mix of fun and originality. Our favourites include the high collared overcoats, the floral patterns and the mix of metallic print with that shag looking texture (supposedly called topiary in the fashion world. ummm what?) The final gown (shown above) was the most over the top of them all. It think in this case a picture is worth a million words. But in newly acquired fashion vocabulary you could say it was a huge purple topiary gown topped off with a teal shag jacket. Are we gonna go to bed smarter tonight or what.
