V-Day Compilation - Top 5 Love Songs

Posted by stea ON Feb 7, 2012

As we are a few days shy from Valentine’s Day, we thought that it would be a great opportunity for each of the INDECENT bloggers to share some of their favourite love songs of all-time. As we count down the days as reviewers post their list of corny and syrupy serenades, we will include new and old gems lost and found.

1. Fall for Your Type – Jamie Foxx ft. Drake

R&B has a way of being tender yet managing to be soulfully debonair. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been as slick as it should have been in the last few years as it often tilted more towards its pop-y and sometimes cheesy counterpart. For this reason, it is refreshing to see a track like this one revert back to its sharp and suave roots.

2. Valentine – Jessie Ware & Sampha

I first heard this piece last year upon its release on February 14 when my friend Markus sent it in to me; I was instantly hooked. You cannot get sweeter or more innocent than this, which is a delightful change from all the usual sappy love songs (not that I won’t be including any on this list!)

3. Keep Giving Me Love – D-Train

An 80’s soul/funk classic that is absolutely timeless. This is definitely THE song you need if you wanna serenade a lady.

4. Whenever You Call – Mariah Carey ft. Brian McKnight

This is the ultimate love song, its magnitude multiplied because of the remarkable duet. Since I grew up listening to so much Mariah Carey, this became an obvious choice.

5. The White Flash – Modeselektor ft. Thom Yorke

This is not your conventional romantic ballad, especially with all the heavy kicks. However, this one has a special place in my heart and is probably the most important one for me on a personal level in this list. Also because I can’t get past Thom Yorke on this hook: ‘You have all the time in the world…’
