As part of Indie Montreal discovery music series, this year's Fringe Montreal's ran a stellar line-up coming along with big names from both local national independant scene. Having been compared with high caliber songstress such as Ella Fitzgerald or Madelinene PeyrouxSinger-songwriter Lily Frost is without a doubt one of the best voice of her generation, as her unique blend of styles such as jazz, indiepop and soul has succeed to conquer the ears and heart of a crowd devoted fans, earning universal acclaim from the press. Here's our little encounter with the British-Columbia native talent.

IX: Your music style seems to be an amalgamation of different styles. What are your major influences ?

Lily Frost: Rimbaud, Kinnie Starr, Life !

IX: How was your experience of playing at the Montreal Fringe this year ?

Lily Frost: Yes I am excited to be a part of the festival. This is our first time playing music off the new CD. I love Montreal!!

IX-Several of your songs have been featured on important TV shows such as Grey's Anatomy, 15!Love, Stargate SG-1, Charmed, The City and even movies. What was your reaction to this?

Lily Frost: I was wary at first. I didn’t want writing for TV to take up all my time. I also didn’t want to become cheesy etc.. but the money is good. It ended taking less time then I thought and was easier than I expected but it’s over for now. The people are very professional but there is a fickle side to it all. I prefer writing for records but I’d love to get an offer to write for a movie by Terrantino or Almadovar.

IX: You are a bilingual artist who also sings in French. How is it different to sing in English then French?

Lily Frost: Different language means different perception of life. I love french and spanish they are more sexy and passionate than english.

IX: Your new album, Do What You Love, will be released in September 2012. What new direction does it take you ?

Lily Frost: It is more upbeat and rhythmic. I haven’t worked with a drummer for years so Ryan Granville Martin is a welcomed member for this show. We are hunting for a bassist still. The content of the record is dedicated to my daughter and the next generation. It is about self realization and empowerment.

IX: What is your favorite place to hang out in Montreal ?

Lily Forst: Bagels! Santropol and Casa del Popolo, can’t wait to get there !!
